Memory of a Mother

Shocked awake
by the clarity of my vision
I struggle

to keep the walls
I have built
stone by heartfelt stone

crumbling
before the crush of
Presence

suspense of half-wake world
holds my mother’s young face,
separated from a wedding photograph

by intent and desire
hair frozen in the only perm
that lasted longer than a week
- she joked

then embrace of memory
outs a lurking tear,
and cold clay recaps.

  1. I love this poem Niall - Beautiful imagery in these words, 'stone by heartfelt stone' and the scalding 'outs' is pitch perfect 'embrace of memory
outs a lurking tear,' Thanks for posting.

  9. That poem was beautiful such a treasure, I loved the last verse were there was a tear over a memory and cold clay recaps, such meaning there and very heartfelt.
