What I've Seen

I have lost faith in this strange

and cursed bond we call

humanity.

I have seen kings go from throne

to unmarked bone in a dessert grave

seen the great become homeless

the homeless take to the streets

seen species extinguished,

new chimera cemented

seen mountains erased

and seas run dry

seen science debased
to poisoning the planet

seen economic miracles and crashes,

space journeys that ended in ashes,

obscene killings, obscenely enacted,
in the name of the legally Unseen,
He that forgives all, 
but surely not this?

What I have not seen
very often, 
is love.
